presentation of the 820RR 2026
The urge to slam the door can produce surprising results. Take Zhang Xue: after founding and running the Kove brand, he's now embarking on another adventure by creating a new motorcycle brand, ZXJC - also known as ZXMOTO.
It may be just an announcement, but two models are already in place. A roadster in the Honda CB 1300 style, but with a more modest displacement: the 500F. And a proud little sports car: the 500RR. As is often the case with Chinese brands, displacement is in the half-liter range, but power is no laughing matter. These first ZXJCs send out more or less 80 horsepower from their 4-cylinder engines.
The heir to a GSX-R?
The boss is already thinking further ahead, bigger and badder. That's what's in store with the imminent 820RR. It's a sportbike with the potential to make Triumph and MV-Agusta very angry. Why? It will be powered by a 3-cylinder, the architecture favored by these European manufacturers, but with big watts. From its 819 cm3, this distiller would deliver no less than 150 hp at 13,000 rpm. An R9 would think twice before picking a fight (119 hp for 889 cm3). Torque is on a par with this, at 8.7 mkg, perched fairly high in the rev range (at 10,500 rpm).
The Chinese manufacturer claims an output close to that of an F3 800. But power isn't everything. We'll also have to see how the fuel injection system delivers the power. And Chinese industry still has some work to do in this area. However, confidence is already there when it comes to speed - this ZXJC claims a top speed of 299 km/h.
But it's not just power that's a surprise. The 820RR is also spectacular when it comes to weight. At just 168 kg dry weight, this machine is among the lightest in its segment. On the scales, it's worthy of an R6 or a GSX-R750 - pardon the pun!
Except that this ZXJC will not benefit from as many years of evolution and refinement as the Japanese. The first vintage won't be beyond reproach... but it will certainly be promising.
Technical but not very original
Japanese inspiration is also present in many aspects. The styling is fairly close to that of the Honda CBR, the frame is an aluminum perimeter, and the rear shell is based on the aesthetic codes of the Yamaha R. There's little originality here. It's a pity that the 820RR doesn't use the 500RR's single-sided swingarm. Also, a higher braking force than the Taisko calipers would be appreciated. Finally, while the machine is suspended by an inverted fork and shock absorber, nothing is said about the source of the peripherals.
A few elements allow us to list the on-board electronics. These include an inertial unit to guide the assistants, as well as traction control, a shifter, several riding modes, cruise control and cornering ABS.
A new offensive is brewing in the world of sports bikes, far sharper than the CFMOTO 750 SR-S or Zontes 703 RR. With this ZXJC 820RR, and its compatriot QJ MOTOR SRK 921 RR (a notch above), the Middle Kingdom's motorcycles are showing a fiercer appetite. A price floor should conclude a little extra anxiety for the competition.
That's if this machine ever leaves its country of origin, which is far less certain.
