presentation of the K 1300 R 2009

The big K-series fighter was proof positive of BMW's "new-generation" unleashing. The most road-going, bourgeois, cushy firm in the world, some would say, had just given birth to the world's most powerful roadster. With 163 hp and an incredible face, the K 1200 R feared nothing and nobody. With this road monster, the HP2 Sport, the K 1200 S missile and the future S 1000 RR, no one looks at BMW in the same way any more.
But Japan reacted. The title of supreme power roadster has now passed to theSuzuki 1300 B-King. Its enormous power will enable it to retain this title for some time to come. In Munich, we didn't try to outdo it; we refined, improved and tweaked the K series, and here's the replacement for the big German beast: the K 1300 R.

bigger engine, more power, more weight. In terms of cubic capacity, the K 1300 R is also 6 kg heavier, weighing in at 243 kg when fully loaded. The extra weight is offset by an extra 10 hp and 1 mkg, especially between 2,000 and 8,000 rpm. With its 173 hp, the new K is No. 2 on the podium of the most powerful naked on the market.

the 4-cylinder engine has been upgraded from 1,157 cm3 to 1,293 cm3 on all 3 K models at the same time. Only the power varies slightly depending on whether it's installed in the S, R or GT. But in each case, the figures are proudly on the rise. In keeping with its roadster character, the K 1300 R adopts a shorter final drive than the 1300 S to boost acceleration. The extra torque isn't just due to the larger displacement: take a look at the muffler... Yes, it's shorter, but that's not all. A valve is integrated into the exhaust to manage the flow of exhaust gases and modulate the sound of the appendage. In short, a BM-style EXUP.

in terms of geometry and agility, the longer wheelbase is offset by the more pronounced inclination of the Duolever front axle. The 180 tire is retained, while the springs and shock absorbers have been tightened. A number of optional extras include ESA II, which allows you to fine-tune the suspension. And if you like sport, you can boost the new selection mechanism with the HP2 Sport's shifter, or change the dashboard for the same 1200 HP2's 2D digital instrument cluster, as on the sport-GT K 1300 S.
For added comfort, the roadster's handlebars are taken from the K 1200 R Sport, as they are decoupled from any vibration. Added to this are the new Japanese-standard commodos.

the look of the K 1300 R is not overtly striking, but it has been revised to make it more aggressive. A fuller-bodied hoof, redesigned scoops and mudguard, white turn signals and a slightly meaner look - it's the perfect way to build on the success of the 1200. Of course, there's a whole range of options to perfect the K 1300 R, as listed below. We won't give you the price, to avoid intoxication.

Différente et mieux !
French Si c'est possible il faut y venir ! Model 2013
Today it's already an oldtimer, but it has to be said that for its class, geometry, weight and length, this machine has exceptional dynamic qualities. The engine is very powerful, and the braking is commensurate. In terms of comfort, with the ESA option of course, the machine can go on for miles without tiring. This is all to do with the riding position itself, which is typically Germanic, of course, with handles that lean back a little, but a straight back combined with feet that are set back a little, which is perfect from an ergonomic point of view and facilitates control. As for the technical solutions chosen (para-lift, single-arm, separate oil tank with large capacity, etc.), the high price is to be put in perspective. Having ridden a few big bikes in my life, I'm still dazzled by this motorcycle. After a few years, and compared to what I see around me, even more recent bikes aren't necessarily ahead, and when the going gets tough, the question often doesn't arise.
I confess I've always been a bit sceptical about BMW! But let's face it, they're different bikes, they're built differently, and they're pretty good!

Que du bonheur !
French FRED Model 2012
I've been a motorcyclist for 34 years, and I've owned a number of bikes, but I have to admit that the K13R in full is diabolical and handles like a dream. I did, however, remove the half handlebars to fit a German T-shaped fork and a fairly expensive street handlebar, but what a ride in terms of comfort!
The torque and throttle response are unusable on the road, but on the track they're a blast. A safe motorcycle, with an atypical look that you can either hate or love. 173 horsepower available, not for everyone - it needs a few years' experience....
Bonne route à tous

French phi monster Model 2012
Certainly not a must-have in terms of motorcycles or technologies, nor a forerunner in the field.
The Hayabuza engine and frame, as well as the technology and experience of the suzuki in the plural, are no match.
The mystical and mythical B King Hayabuza 1340 is still way out in front, and will remain for a long time to come the deserved title of the world's most powerful roadster.
And in fact ...
Even more powerful than some and many hyper sports ;-)

French suiscool
Before raising the ante free of charge: 0.04 kg/hp difference between the two (bm advantage).
This figure alone makes a mockery of your comment: on the open road, how can you tell the difference?
And even with the shifter, the 1,000m DA will make the jap' sweat!
After that, the German's duo and paralever suspension system works wonders on main roads, whereas the B-King will certainly be more at ease on winding roads, or between two traffic lights..
In any case, with the k13: 1 passenger (me = 150kg) 40L tank bag 55L softbag behind = 500km in a day with no problem, even holding the 240 for a long time
The B-King is a sulphurous bike, excellent for solo riding, but for travelling with a duo/baggage it's deadly!
In short, it's not really the same uses, nor the same maintenance costs (the B-King's advantage), which is why it's useful to define your needs carefully before buying
I'm replying 4 years later, yeah I've seen it, but I still wanted to balance the scales for the readers..
