presentation of the 1200 Monster 25° Anniversario 2018
The early '90s were a turbulent time for Italy, with the revival of one of its most famous manufacturers. In 1994, there was a major shock in the world of sports bikes: Ducati created the 916, and the Superbike world was turned upside down. The year before, the roadster sector was rocked. In Bologna, the twin-cylinder 900 SS was transplanted onto a chassis from the 851/888, the design was entrusted to Miguel Galluzzi, and, bang, the 900 Mostro - soon to become the Monster - was THE upheaval of the segment. A constellation of versions followed. That was 25 years ago.
a quarter of a century celebrated with this special Monster series, glorified in this "25° Anniversario" edition. Ducat has taken great care to create a particularly desirable interpretation of its fetish roadster, worthy of the cult and envy gravitating around this motorcycle. To please, without limits, whether in front of the most beautiful of seats or on the twistiest of roads.
First, let's dress it up! The colors of the Italian flag are the order of the day, as they have been for the brand's landmark products(1098 S Tricolore, Panigale V4 Speciale, 1299 Panigale R Final Edition, etc.). This color scheme comes straight from the nasty S4Rs Tricolore of 2008. It lived like a powder keg, so bewitching that it left its mark.
the first Monster had plenty of character, with an engine from another era. Its 904 cm3 L-twin with 2 valves per cylinder, carburetor, desmo and air-cooling produced 73 horsepower. A quantum leap in technology changed all that. Based on the 1200 Monster S, this "25th Anniversary" - with its 1198 cm3, 8 valves, fuel injection, cutting-edge technology and multiple riding aids - pumps out 147 hp at 9250 rpm. An airplane.
The chassis is equally impressive. 48-mm inverted forks, Öhlins monoshock and steering damper, Brembo brakes with 4-piston M50 calipers and 330-mm discs, aluminum monobars, and a contained dry weight of 184 kilos. Some components have been cosmetically enhanced for the occasion. The forged Marchesini rims feature the same design as those on the Monster R, plus a gold tint. The latter is also applied to the minimalist trellis frame.
a seductive look goes hand in hand with similar ornamentation. Rizoma was called upon for a selection of pieces. These include the handlebar ends, fuel filler cap and mirrors. Ducati took care to install articulated control levers and an aluminum plate holder. Carbon has not been forgotten, far from it, making its presence felt on the front and rear mudguards, the exhaust heat shield and the cladding around the ignition switch.
But this limited series still needs a touch of class. First, the small "25°" embroidery on the back of the stitched seat. Then, the authentication plate fixed to the frame, where the number in the series of 500 will be inscribed. The saga looks back on a past of 325,000 examples, and seems to see the future with a patriotic smile.
